Day 1
Welcome to the Mediterranean Shore.
Meet your tour leader and fellow cyclists at Malaga Airport at 4:00 PM for a private transfer to the coastal town of Estepona.
Settle into your 4-star beachfront hotel, then join your guide for a welcome briefing and introduction to the week ahead. This evening, enjoy an included group dinner, the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers before your cycling journey begins.
Accommodation: 4-star beachfront hotel in Estepona.
Day 2
Orange Groves & Bandit Hideaways.
Distance: 41 km | Terrain: Easy to Moderate | Includes approximately 5 km of gravel.
Ease into your first day of cycling with a gentle ride through the Guadiaro River valley, following quiet lanes past fragrant orange orchards and avocado groves.
The route gradually leaves the coast behind and skirts the edge of Los Alcornocales Natural Park, where rolling countryside and peaceful rural roads lead you towards Jimena de la Frontera.
After arriving, take a walk up to the town's historic Moorish castle for sweeping views across the surrounding landscape, or simply relax at your hotel and enjoy some downtime by the rooftop pool.
Accommodation: Quaint hotel or guesthouse in Jimena de la Frontera.
Day 3
Deep into the Alcornocales Cork Oak Reserve.
Distance: 53 km | Terrain: Moderate to Challenging — the most demanding day of the tour, with several sustained climbs.
Today's ride takes you deep into the magnificent Los Alcornocales Natural Park, one of the Mediterranean's great cork oak landscapes and among the most unspoilt corners of Andalucia.
Quiet tarmac roads wind beneath a dense canopy of cork trees, climbing steadily through forested valleys and past clear mountain streams, old stone bridges and remote rural scenery.
It is the most challenging cycling day of the tour, but the climbs are rewarded with beautiful views across the surrounding hills and a real sense of travelling through wild, largely untouched countryside.
Your destination is Alcalá de los Gazules, a traditional whitewashed hill town with strong Moorish roots and sweeping views over the Cádiz countryside. Take time to wander its narrow streets before joining your fellow travellers for an included group dinner this evening.
Accommodation: Village hotel in Alcalá de los Gazules.
Day 4
Bullfighting Valleys to the Atlantic Coast.
Distance: 58 km | Terrain: Moderate, with several hill passes.
Leave Alcalá de los Gazules behind and ride through open Andalusian countryside, where wildflower meadows, olive groves and traditional cattle-grazing pastures stretch across the rolling hills. The route gradually turns west towards the Atlantic, with a series of steady climbs and descents opening up ever broader views across the Cádiz landscape.
A major highlight of the day is Vejer de la Frontera, one of southern Spain's most striking white villages, dramatically perched on a high ridge above the coast. Explore its maze of whitewashed lanes, Moorish gateways and hidden plazas on a guided cultural walk, with time to enjoy some local tapas.
From Vejer, descend towards the coast and continue to Conil de la Frontera, a relaxed beachside town overlooking the Atlantic. Settle in here for a two-night stay, with time to enjoy the sea, promenade and lively old town.
Accommodation: Beachside hotel in Conil de la Frontera.
Day 5
Beach Relaxation, Sherry Bodegas, or Jerez Culture.
Enjoy a flexible day on the Costa de la Luz, with the choice to relax by the sea or explore more of Cádiz Province. Conil's broad sandy beaches and easygoing old town make it a perfect place to slow the pace, while your tour leader can help arrange a range of optional excursions.
Whether you spend the day exploring or simply unwinding by the Atlantic, this is an easy, unstructured day designed to recharge before the final stages of the tour.
Accommodation: Beachside hotel in Conil de la Frontera.
Day 6
Cape Trafalgar & Pirate Coves.
Distance: 40 km | Terrain: Easy to Moderate.
Follow quiet coastal roads and pine-fringed trails along the Costa de la Luz, with the Atlantic rarely far from view. Ride through Caños de Meca to Cape Trafalgar, the windswept headland that gave its name to the famous 1805 naval battle, where Britain's fleet under Admiral Nelson defeated the combined French and Spanish forces.
Continue south towards Barbate, a traditional fishing town with a long connection to the sea. Along the way, take a short walk to one of the coast's historic watchtowers before pausing for a relaxed seaside lunch, perhaps enjoying freshly grilled sardines and other local seafood.
The final stretch follows the coast to Zahara de los Atunes, a laid-back beach town known for its long sandy shoreline and Atlantic sunsets.
Accommodation: Beachside hotel in Zahara de los Atunes.
Day 7
Roman Ruins & Views of the African Coast.
Distance: 45 km | Terrain: Moderate.
Continue along the Costa de la Luz, following coastal paths and quiet roads through pine forests, secluded coves and sweeping Atlantic scenery. The highlight of the ride is Bolonia, where you'll stop to explore the remarkably preserved ruins of Baelo Claudia, a Roman seaside settlement dating back around 2,000 years.
From here, cycle past the immense sand dunes of Bolonia and continue towards Tarifa, set at the southernmost tip of mainland Europe. With the mountains of North Africa visible across the Strait of Gibraltar on clear days, it is a spectacular place to finish your journey.
After arriving, explore Tarifa's atmospheric Moorish old quarter, Guzman Castle and maze of narrow lanes before gathering with your fellow travellers for a final celebratory group dinner.
Day 8

How does support van backup work on this guided cycling tour?
Our support vehicle ("sag wagon") stays close to the cycling group throughout the day, conducting sweeps nearly every hour. It carries cold drinking water, fresh fruit, and snacks. If you ever feel tired or prefer not to cycle a hilly section, you are welcome to rack your bike and ride comfortably in the van's passenger seats.
How difficult is cycling along the Costa de la Luz?
The tour is graded Easy to Moderate / Moderate. Daily distances average around 40km to 58km. While Andalucia is a hilly region, the itinerary uses quiet back roads and gentle coastal parkways to avoid overly exhausting climbs. Day 3 through Alcornocales National Park is the most challenging stage, but full van support and optional E-bikes make it manageable for all fitness levels.
Can I see Africa from the cycle route?
Yes! As you cycle along the Atlantic coastline toward Tarifa (Europe's southernmost point), you will enjoy views across the Strait of Gibraltar to the mountains of Morocco on the African continent.
What transfer arrangements are provided from Malaga Airport?
A group shuttle transfer is included on Day 1, picking up guests at Malaga Airport (Arrivals Zone) at 4:00 PM and driving to Estepona (approx. 50 minutes). On Day 8, a return shuttle departs Tarifa at approximately 8:00 AM for the 2-hour drive back to Malaga Airport.
What is the historical significance of Cape Trafalgar?
Encountered on Day 6 near Caños de Meca, Cape Trafalgar (Cabo Trafalgar) is a historic headland famous for the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar. Here, the British Royal Navy led by Admiral Lord Nelson defeated the combined fleets of the French and Spanish navies, securing British naval supremacy for over a century.
What are the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia in Bolonia?
Visited on Day 7, Baelo Claudia is an extraordinarily preserved ancient Roman seaside city located directly on the sands of Bolonia beach. Dating back to the 2nd century BC, it was a major Roman port for trading with North Africa and producing garum (a prized Roman fish sauce). Cyclists can explore its intact Roman forum, basilica, temples, and seaside factory ruins.
What makes Vejer de la Frontera one of Spain's finest white villages?
Perched dramatically on a high cliff overlooking the Barbate River, Vejer de la Frontera is a quintessential pueblo blanco (white village). Visited on Day 4, its pristine medieval center features whitewashed stone houses, cobblestone alleyways, flower-filled courtyards, and ancient Moorish castle walls offering sweeping views across the Atlantic coastal plains.
Why is Tarifa famous for wind sports and birdwatching?
Visited on Day 7, Tarifa is situated at the most southerly point of continental Europe and acts as the geographic gateway to Africa. Because of its unique position on the Strait of Gibraltar, it boasts a thriving adventure tourism industry centered entirely on surf and wind sports. Furthermore, Tarifa serves as the main corridor for migratory birds traveling between Europe and Africa, offering cyclists incredible opportunities to view unique continental flora and fauna.
What are the "Sherry and Toro" trails in Andalucia?
As you cycle through Southern Spain, your route weaves through the classic cultural trails of the Toro (bull) and Sherry. On Day 4, you will pedal across open valleys and meadows that serve as traditional bullfighting tierra (pastures). Later, during your rest day in Conil, you have the option to visit Jerez de la Frontera—the birthplace of fortified wine—to tour world-famous sherry bodegas such as Tío Pepe, Sandeman, or Osborne.
Can I see the famous dancing horses of Andalucia on this trip?
Yes! During your rest day in Conil on Day 5, you have the option to take a day trip to Jerez de la Frontera to witness the famous Andalucian equestrian shows. You can attend a performance at the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art (Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre), though it is highly imperative that you book these tickets well in advance of your tour.
What exact type of bicycles are provided on this tour?
Riders are provided with Spanish-made BH Silverlite bicycles. These are high-quality, lightweight aluminum hybrid bikes featuring Shimano components and reliable disc brakes on both the front and back. Each bike is fully equipped with a rear carry rack, a waterproof front handlebar bag, and a mounted water bottle. Gel seat pad covers and toe clips (with or without straps) are also available free of charge if requested at the time of booking.
How long does the E-bike battery last on the coastal route?
If you choose to upgrade to an Electric-assist bike, you will receive a 24v or 36v hybrid-style E-bike equipped with a rear rack and front carry bag. The batteries are officially rated for 60km per day when used on economic power settings. Since the daily riding distances on this tour range from 40km to 58km , a single charge is perfectly sufficient to complete your daily stages comfortably.
