Day 1
Welcome On Board & Evening Windmill Stroll Embarkation and check-in take place between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in central Amsterdam, where the crew warmly welcomes you on board your luxury river barge. Once all guests have arrived, sit back and enjoy a relaxing dinner cruise as your ship sails toward Zaandam. Upon arrival, take a short warm-up test ride on your bike before taking an evening stroll through Zaandam's charming city center.
Day 2
UNESCO Polders & Dutch East India Maritime History Set off after breakfast to visit the Zaanse Schans open-air museum with its collection of historic working windmills and wooden houses. Continue cycling into the UNESCO World Heritage Beemster polder, a 17th-century masterpiece of land reclamation and Renaissance planning. Finish your ride in Hoorn, one of the most important 17th-century harbors of the Dutch East India Company. In the evening, join an included canal boat tour through Hoorn’s historic center.
Day 3
Islands, Medieval Castles & Waterland Meadows Enjoy breakfast as the ship sails to the famous fishing village of Volendam. Board a scenic local ferry across Lake IJsselmeer to the former island of Marken to explore its green wooden cottages. Cycle along the coast toward IJburg—a modern neighborhood built on reclaimed lake land—and pedal to Muiden to view its impressive 14th-century waterfront castle. Rejoin the ship in Weesp and relax over dinner as your barge cruises downriver to Utrecht.
Day 4
The Silver City & Freshwater Tidal Wetlands During breakfast, the ship sails to Schoonhoven, famous for its centuries of silver craftsmanship. Today you can choose between two routes. The longer route takes you directly into De Biesbosch National Park, one of Europe's last remaining freshwater tidal wetlands. Ride along quiet dikes, willow forests, and winding creeks, keeping an eye out for wild birds and beavers. Rejoin the ship in Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland, for an after-dinner guided walking tour.
Day 5
Iconic UNESCO Windmills & Candlelight City Board the fast Waterbus ferry to Alblasserdam to start your ride. Within minutes, you’ll arrive at Kinderdijk, a breathtaking UNESCO site featuring 19 monumental windmills lining the water channels. Your tour includes admission to visit inside a working windmill and the visitor center. Continue through polder landscapes to Gouda, world-renowned for its cheese and candles. Tonight, dinner is unincluded so you can dine at a local restaurant in Gouda's market square.
Day 6
Stained Glass, Rembrandt’s Birthplace & The Green Heart Start the morning exploring Gouda, including its historic market square, Cheese Weighing House, and an included visit inside St. John's Church to see its world-famous stained-glass windows. Saddle up and ride through the quiet canals and green meadows of the Green Heart of Holland. The longer route takes you through Leiden, the birthplace of Rembrandt and home to the country's oldest university, before finishing in the quiet riverside village of Uithoorn.
Day 7
Riverbank Cycling & Amstel River Entrance Enjoy a leisurely final cycling tour through the water-rich countryside surrounding Uithoorn, a peaceful residential enclave along the Amstel. After lunch, return to your luxury barge for a spectacular final cruise along the Amstel River directly into central Amsterdam. See the capital's iconic bridges, houseboats, and historic canal architecture unfold around you from the sun deck.

What makes the "Best of Holland" tour different from other cycling cruises?
The Best of Holland tour combines the top highlights of both North and South Holland into a single 8-day itinerary. It uniquely features iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites (Kinderdijk windmills and the Beemster polder), historic harbor towns (Hoorn and Volendam), cultural centers (Gouda and Leiden), and natural parks (De Biesbosch) while traveling on an intimate luxury river barge.
How does having two tour leaders work on the cycling rides?
To ensure a personalized, relaxed experience, this tour provides two professional tour leaders on board. Guests split into two smaller riding groups during daily excursions. This allows cyclists to choose a group pace that matches their preference while keeping group sizes manageable and safe on the cycle paths.
What is included in the entrance fees on this tour?
Unlike standard self-guided tours, this premium guided package includes several iconic excursions in the tour price: a private canal boat cruise through historic Hoorn, entry to the Zaanse Schans grounds, admission inside a working 18th-century windmill at Kinderdijk, and admission tickets to view the stained glass of St. John's Church in Gouda.
Why is one dinner not included on Day 5 in Gouda?
When the ship moors overnight in Gouda on Day 5, dinner is left unincluded so guests can step ashore and explore the vibrant restaurant scene surrounding Gouda’s famous medieval market square. Your tour leaders will provide curated dining recommendations on board.
Are bicycle helmets provided on this tour?
Yes! Unlike many standard cycling tours in the Netherlands, the use of a comfortable bicycle helmet is included free of charge in this tour package for all guests.
Can I cycle through De Biesbosch National Park on this trip?
Yes. On Day 4, guests who choose the longer cycling option (53 km) will ride directly through De Biesbosch National Park, one of Europe's largest and last remaining freshwater tidal wetland reserves, famous for its willow forests, quiet creeks, and beaver populations.
What is the Beemster Polder, and why is it a UNESCO site?
The Beemster polder is a breathtaking reclaimed landscape that UNESCO recognized as a “masterpiece of creative planning”. Drained in the early 17th century, the area was laid out using classical Renaissance ideals of geometry and proportion. Today, cycling through the Beemster offers a peaceful journey past historic farmhouses, orderly canals, and deep green pastures.
Can I skip a day of cycling if I want to rest?
Yes! One of the greatest benefits of a floating hotel is total flexibility. If you prefer not to cycle on any particular day, you are more than welcome to leave your bike parked and stay on board. You can simply relax in the panoramic lounge or on the sun deck, enjoying the beautiful Dutch water scenery as the luxury barge cruises to your next destination.
What is the "Green Heart of Holland"?
The Green Heart of Holland is a vast, peaceful rural region completely surrounded by the densely populated cities of the Randstad (like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague). Characterized by lush green meadows, historic windmills, small canals, and lakes, this entire area sits below sea level. You will cycle directly through this idyllic countryside on Day 6 of the tour.
How do we get to the historic village of Marken?
Marken is a highly photogenic former island famous for its traditional wooden houses and fishing heritage. Because it is located out in the water, you will reach it on Day 3 by taking a scenic local passenger ferry across Lake IJsselmeer from the neighboring fishing village of Volendam.
Can I drop off my luggage early on the day of arrival?
Absolutely. While official embarkation and cabin check-in take place between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., you are welcome to drop your luggage off on board the ship starting at 11:00 a.m. This allows you to explore the canals and cafes of Amsterdam completely unburdened before your river cruise officially begins.
Are electric bikes (e-bikes) available to rent on this premium tour?
Yes, Premium E-Bikes are available to rent for €287 per week. These pedal-assist bicycles make navigating the coastal headwinds a breeze. Because the luxury barge carries a strictly limited number of electrical bikes, we highly recommend reserving your e-bike at the exact time of booking to guarantee its availability.
