Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is walking the Camino de Ronda, and what fitness level is required?

Walking the Camino de Ronda is graded as easy. The route features some short ascents and descents as you navigate coastal paths and country trails. Because the longest walking day is only 14km, it requires just a basic level of fitness, making it highly accessible for most walkers

What is the best time of year to walk the Costa Brava?

Temperatures on the Costa Brava are very warm for most of the year. To ensure the most comfortable walking experience, this tour runs during the ideal shoulder seasons: from March 1st to June 27th, and again from September 1st to October 21st. The tour is not available during July and August to help you avoid the intense mid-summer heat and peak tourist crowds.

Do I need to carry my luggage on the Camino de Ronda?

No, you do not need to carry a heavy backpack. Daily luggage transfers between your accommodations are fully included in the tour. You only need to carry a light daypack for your daily essentials, such as water, sunscreen, and a swimsuit for the frequent Mediterranean swim stops

Is the route easy to navigate without a guide?

Yes. While this is a self-guided walk, we provide comprehensive navigation tools including detailed route notes, physical maps, and digital GPS tracks. Additionally, upon arrival, you will receive a welcome briefing from a local English-speaking guide to prepare you for the week. You will also have access to a 24-hour help line for total peace of mind while on the trail.

How do I get from Barcelona to the starting point in Begur?

Traveling from Barcelona is simple. Take the shuttle train from Barcelona Airport to the Barcelona Sants train station, which takes about 25 minutes. From there, transfer to the AVANT high-speed train to Figueres Vilafant. Your tour includes a seamless arrival transfer from the Figueres Vilafant Train Station (or Girona Airport) directly to your accommodation in Begur.

(Note: Travelers coming from Madrid can take the high-speed AVE train directly to Figueres Vilafant, which takes approximately 4 hours and 13 minutes)

How do I return to Barcelona after the walk ends in S'Agaró?

After finishing your adventure at Sant Pol beach in S'Agaró, the easiest return option is to take a short taxi ride (costing approximately €20 locally) to the Sant Feliu de Guixols Bus Station. From there, you can board a modern bus equipped with luggage storage that travels directly to Barcelona Centre or Barcelona Airport. The bus journey takes between 1.5 to 2 hours and costs approximately €18.00. Alternatively, you can take a taxi to the Girona Train Station.

What is the hiking terrain like on the Camino de Ronda?

The Costa Brava coastline features beautifully varied terrain. You can expect coastal dirt paths, occasional steep stairs, paved promenades in the villages, and stretches where you will walk directly on sandy beaches. While the daily distances are short, there are continuous, rolling ups and downs as you navigate the coves and headlands.

What kind of shoes should I wear to walk the Camino de Ronda?

Leave your heavy mountain hiking boots at home. Because the terrain involves coastal paths, stairs, and sandy beaches, we highly recommend lightweight trail running shoes or comfortable, breathable trekking shoes. You will often find yourself taking your shoes off to walk in the sand or go for a swim, so lightweight, easy-to-remove footwear is ideal.

Are there places to buy food and drink along the route?

Absolutely. Unlike remote wilderness trails, the Camino de Ronda frequently weaves in and out of coastal towns and fishing villages. You will have plenty of opportunities every day to stop at seaside cafés, tapas bars, and local shops to purchase lunch, snacks, and drinking water.

How is the trail marked?

The Camino de Ronda generally follows Spain's official GR92 long-distance trail. The path is well-marked with painted red and white stripes on trees, rocks, and signposts. Furthermore, your tour package includes a dedicated holiday app with built-in navigation and comprehensive digital GPS tracks, ensuring you always know exactly where you are.
