Stretching between the historic city of Bodrum and the spectacular Datça Peninsula, the Gulf of Gökova is a true scenic gem and a crown jewel among active holidays in Turkey. Completely spared from mass tourism, this untouched coastline reveals the Aegean in its purest form—where untamed pine forests meet crystal-clear turquoise bays, sleepy fishing harbors, and ancient civilizational ruins.
On this 8-day bike and boat tour, you will cycle through silver-green olive groves, meet semi-nomadic carpet weavers in traditional Turkmen villages, marvel at ancient rock tombs in Akyaka, and conquer panoramic coastal ascents overlooking the Greek Dodecanese islands. Your floating hotel is a deluxe three-masted Turkish gulet, providing an authentic maritime sanctuary between your daily rides.

What are the road surface conditions like for cycling in the Gulf of Gökova?
Roads in rural Turkey are predominantly asphalted but can be very rough, often featuring coarse gravel chippings, uneven surfaces, and small potholes. There is no smooth asphalt in these rural regions. For this reason, our rental fleet consists of bikes equipped with wider tires and front suspension to absorb road vibration comfortably.
How does the dual MTB and Trekking/Hybrid option work on the same vessel?
This cruise accommodates both standard road/hybrid cyclists and offroad mountain bikers. The ship carries two dedicated tour guides. Each day, the hybrid group cycles paved scenic coastal roads while the MTB group tackles unpaved, offroad mountain trails. Both groups reunite on board for lunch, swim stops, and evening harbor stays.
Do I need a visa or passport to join this tour starting in Bodrum?
Yes. All travelers must carry a valid passport to enter Turkey. Depending on your citizenship, you may need to obtain a Turkish e-Visa prior to arrival.
Are personal e-bikes permitted on board Turkish gulets?
No. Personal e-bikes are strictly prohibited on board due to strict weight limits (22 kg / 48.5 lbs maximum for personal bikes) designed to protect crew members who manually hoist bikes on and off the boat daily. If you require an e-bike, you can rent one of our modern, well-maintained Flyer e-bikes.
Is Wi-Fi available on board the ship?
No, our Turkish gulets do not feature onboard Wi-Fi connections. However, free Wi-Fi is widely accessible at local harbor cafes, tavernas, and restaurants in virtually every port where the boat docks.
What pace is maintained during the group rides?
On hybrid/e-bike departures, the guided group pace is determined by riders on conventional hybrid bicycles. E-bike riders are asked to be mindful of non-electric cyclists, who naturally require more frequent rest breaks when climbing steep coastal hills.
What currency should I bring for a bike and boat tour along the Gulf of Gökova?
You should bring both Euros and Turkish Lira (TRY) in cash. Onboard expenses (such as the mandatory tourist tax, bar tab, and bike rental insurance) are billed in Euros, whereas local cafes, markets, and family-run restaurants in rural villages like Etrim, Mazı, and Çamlı require Turkish Lira cash. Credit card processing is rarely available in these small coastal stopovers.
How are e-bike batteries charged on board a wooden gulet?
E-bike batteries are charged overnight on board the gulet using the ship’s generator or shoreline power connections when docked in port. The onboard crew handles all battery management and charging routines daily to ensure your e-bike is fully charged and ready before every morning ride.
What pedals and gear should I bring if I choose the mountain bike (MTB) option?
All rental mountain bikes come equipped with standard flat pedals. If you prefer riding with clipless pedals (such as SPD systems), you are strongly encouraged to bring your own pedals and cycling shoes. Our onboard mechanics will gladly install your personal pedals on your rental bike during embarkation on Day 1.
What makes the architecture in Akyaka so unique compared to other coastal Turkish towns?
Akyaka is world-renowned for its strict preservation of Ula-style Ottoman wooden architecture, characterized by intricate hand-carved wooden ceilings, elaborate balconies, and overhanging tiled roofs. Pioneer architect Nail Çakırhan won the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture for bringing this style to life, and local building codes mandate that all new structures honor this traditional aesthetic.
Is water footwear recommended for shore landings and beach swim stops?
Yes, bringing a pair of water shoes or sturdy sea sandals is highly recommended. While most swim stops allow you to jump directly into deep turquoise waters from the gulet's swimming ladder, shore breaks in secluded coves (like Akbük or English Bay) can feature pebbly beaches or rocky underwater ledges where footwear provides extra comfort and protection.
What happens if I get tired or want to skip a day of cycling?
You are never obligated to cycle every stage. If you prefer a rest day, you can simply stay on board the gulet, sunbathe on deck, read, and enjoy the scenic cruise to the next swimming bay or harbor where the cycling group reboards for lunch or dinner.
